A group of young people have completed the Mirrors Programme. Social development minister Michael Weeks announced 29 teenagers, aged between 14 and 18, successfully came through the third phase of the project which included an eight-month spell with a personal coach. They attended a monthly workshop and participated in a community service project clean-up day at Fort Cunningham. Mr Weeks praised the participants in a ceremony at the Whitney Institute Middle School earlier this month. He said “Congratulations on this accomplishment and remember your journey doesn’t end here.

29 Complete Mirrors Community Programme

The Minister of Social Development and Sports Michael Weeks announced that 29 young people between the ages of 14-18 successfully completed the third phase of the Mirrors Community Programme on Saturday June 2, 2018 at the Whitney Institute Middle School. The Community Programme consisted of three phases – Enrolment, Residential and an eight Month Follow Through – based on the eight Keys of Excellence.

Public asked to support National Peace Day

A day of unity and healing is to be held tomorrow. The public is asked to show its support and join in the National Peace Day at Devonshire’s National Sports Centre. The Ministry of National Security organised the event for families who have lost loved ones in a joint effort with churches and social service agencies. Wayne Caines, the national security minister, said the peace day was designed to tackle “the challenges of antisocial behaviour and violence”. He added the organisers had decided to also “embrace those in our population who are experiencing deep hurt, loss and trauma due to other reasons”.

Weeks launches Mirrors enrolment drive

A charity has appealed for dozens of volunteers to help provide training and coaching to at-risk youngsters. Michael Weeks, Minister of Social Development and Sport, kicked off the enrolment drive for the Mirrors Programme in the run-up to its third year of SuperCamp programming. Mr Weeks said that a “phenomenal” year of camps and programmes were planned “with a range of opportunities for youth participants and community volunteers”.

Mirrors lead cleanup on Paget Island

Volunteers have pitched in to help clean up a historic fort on Paget Island. The Mirrors youth programme led the restoration drive, helped by Outward Bound, the parks department, the Royal Bermuda Regiment and other supporters, including John Rankin, the Governor.
